Hi everyone.....just wondering what I can keep in my very cold greenhouse during winter? It's too cold for overwintering fuchsias and pelargoniums (has little gaps here and there!). It would be nice to have some winter flowering pots.....any reason to go down the garden to it really!

Ok Triffid, I posted the question here, so I wouldn't have too...! I'm afraid over the years I've lost a lot of fuchsias overwintering them under the staging of the greenhouse. Thanks anyway.

I don't know if you have a shed,Janey, but I have overwintered a couple of tender Fuchsia's in mine, wrapped in fleece, and just removed the leaves as they drop..not quite as cold as a Greenhouse..but they survived..Mainly,I stand them on spare racking from an old Growhouse,in the Conservatory..if you have either?

Keep them dry too. I kept one in a cool room in the house once and didn't water it at all.Could you perhaps make a sort of mini greenhouse inside the big one which would keep the cold draughts out?

Thanks Sandra and Stera.....yes I have an area for the Fuchsias in my garage/barn. It was more, something of interest for the greenhouse that would cope with the very cold and damp......

Dwarf trees (not necessarily bonsai) would be happy so long as they didn't dry out . . .
If I can think of anything more colourful, Janey, I will let you know!

Or could you perhaps get some sealant and deal with the draughty gaps?

There are a load of things you can overwinter and grow on in a winter greenhouse without heating it -- go to
