How far down do you prune raspberries?
In the garden I get to own in a couple of weeks there is a bountiful summer raspberry. It is pretty tall (over 5ft) on the fruit stems do I cut these canes down?
Thanks
Pam

The old canes, which you prune down, will be brown and woody whilst the new canes, which you leave, will be a light green colour and look softer.

Brilliant thanks both. I think they have finished now the birds will be feasting until we have access in 2 weeks.

Once the canes have finished fruiting cut them down to the ground. Do not cut the new canes that grew up this year as they will fruit next year. We'll be cutting back our established rasps. in about a week. When the new canes get to around 5 foot in height remove the growing tip so that they don't get any taller.
