After coming home after a few days away ... To our disappointment we saw 2 dead frogs ( 1 about 6ft from our pond , the other about 1ft away ) with some frogs Spawn . 1 of the frogs was stripped to the bone . What would have done this ? A Sparrow Hawk ? A Cat ? . There was 7 frogs in pond about 5 weeks ago , bet now we won't have anymore activity , frogs Spawn / tadpoles etc . All very interesting to watch & show inquisitive Grandchildren

Forgot could be Herons. Arbuthnot . Although we haven't fish in the pond , there are some gardens nearby that have . So Heron could be a possibility . Thanks

Either a cat or a heron I'd say, however we do have a crow in our garden that attacks the frogs when their in the garden but it never eats them. It happens every year here. However the people next door to us have a pond and their cats regularly remove theirs from the pond..

I've never heard of cats eating frogs though they might well kill them.

They do eat them sometimes Stera, then are usually sick afterwards, very indigestible. I think a bird of some kind must have found it already killed & had a good peck at it, crow family will eat any carrion.

A heron would have swallowed it whole, probably even digested the bones

« I wish to plant perennial flowers to assist low maintainance. I only have a 'garden'...
Next question
I doubt greatly that a sparrow hawk would have caught and eaten a frog, they catch their prey on the wing not the ground. Far more likely to be a cat.
