I am a new gardener and have bought a bleeding heart plant, I have only had this plant about a month. This last week the bottom leaves have started to wither, is this normal?

Hi Jayne. :)

It sounds as if it hasn't been watered enough. Bleeding Heart likes rich, moist soil and partial shade. It will tolerate sun, but only once it's established.

If you planted it outside, you need to keep it well watered until its established a broader root system that isn't pot shaped. If its still in the pot you bought it in, it may need repotting or planting out, as well as watering.

Interesting! This is the second question I have seen about Bleeding Hearts. Are they really that temperamental? I have several in the garden and they get moved, split up, cut back and still romp away, except one this year which looks a bit sick, but as it is next to another three and they are doing their 'taking over' bit, I'm not sure what's wrong with that one!

No, they're not at all Honeysuckle - but any new plant needs regular watering until its settled in, and its been windy and pretty dry lately.

Thank you for this help, I think maybe I need to be more careful with my watering, though not today its pouring down here.
