Not over pollinated, exactly - Mckanna hybrids, if they seed, often produce ordinary Aquilegia vulgaris instead, they cross breed readily. Aquilegia are not long lived, but new plants grow from seed they've formed, and unless pollination has taken place in a closed environment with only Mckanna hybrids, you don't know what the seedlings will look like when they flower because they've cross pollinated.
