Hi, does anyone know the proper name for the 'giant daisies' you see alot of at this time of year? And can you buy their seeds in gardening centres? Thanks.

There are lots of different garden varieties of various heights as well, including some nice lemon ones.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the big daisies smell of feet?

Must be honest, I've never actually thought of smelling them! Will definitely have a sniff the next time I see one though.

Hi, Cammomile, no it's not just you, years ago we used to call them dog daisies, becausethey smelt like dog dirt, and they could never be used as cut flowers, Derek.

Gosh, I never knew why they were called dog daisies!

Dog was a term that implied lowly/common in medieval times and according to my biology teacher that is the etymology derivation of dog rose, dog violet etc. The dogs were curs apparently.

Hi Sbg, that isn't why we called them dog daisies, it was the smell of the flowers, lol, Derek.

The wild ones on verges are Oxeye Daisies, Leucanthemum vulgare. You can get seeds from native plants specialists.
