All the previous queries plus have you ever pruned it? In a pot or in the ground? Was it in flower when you bought it?

Re pruning, if you did it at the wrong time you'll have cut off all the parts that would have flowered A young plant like that shouldn't need pruning at all. When it does flower leave the dead flowers on over the winter as they protect the buds, and cut them off when the buds start swelling in spring.
