I love this plant,Sheila..but you have to keep on top of it ..I dig some of the unwanted shoots out, as soon as it starts appearing,and before it gets hold,so it isn't too hard a job..just one of those plants which needs a master..or mistress :o)

Solid clay slows it down but doesn't stop it completely.

It's Loosestrife (Lysimachia punctuate). It can be quite invasive but I have also read it can sometimes disappear altogether.
