I bought a hebe about two years ago when it was flowering. It has not flowered since even though it has grown a lot and looks very healthy. Any ideas please????

Which variety of Hebe is it and where are you growing it - sun, shade? In a pot or in the ground? Are you feeding it, and if so, what with?

I don't know the variety as I got it from a local shop. It is in the ground with other plants that are doing well. It is west facing and gets sun for a good part of the day, similar to one I had in my last flat, which did flower year after year. I have not fed it.

Hope you get this. I have not used this site before and think I replied to you in the wrong place.
I don't know the name of the hebe as it was bought in a local shop. It is kept in the ground in a west facing direction along with other plants, all doing well. I have not fed it. I had a similar hebe in my old flat and it flowered year after year.

Hi Joan. Some hebes don't flower at all, and some only flower occasionally. If you could upload a photo, it might help. Alternatively, contact the Hebe Society. You can find them online here: http://www.hebesoc.org/

The trouble is, there are many new hybrids of Hebe, and these are often sold at non gardening outlets when they're in flower. Many of them are actually tender, and if the last two winters had been proper winters, if yours was one of those types it might even have died, never mind not flowered. Sometimes they're in flower at point of sale because they've been grown in perfect conditions to force flowering, and its quite possible that, although the plant grows on, its reluctant to flower outdoors afterwards.

Its hard to give further advice without knowing the variety, unfortunately, but it sounds as if its not a cultural cause as such, because you say the plant is growing healthily and getting larger. If you could upload a photograph, that might mean its possible to identify it - but it might not. Worth a try though...

Thanks Rosierose and Bamboo. I think its ears must have been burning because I have now detected some embryonic flowering! Hopefully it will now start to flower. There is a very similar hebe in a garden down the road. I don't think there is actually anything wrong with it because it has grown quite a lot over the last year and the leaves are a lovely dark green and very shiny. If it fails to flower now I will definitely upload a photo. I did google the Hebe Society but could not find any relevant answers.
