I picked the pods off my lupin before they were brown (my bad). I didn'nt know there were seeds in them until I opened them and then contacted you. Can I still save them and/or plant them or is it too late?

Hi, welcome to GoY, did you just take the seed pods off or the whole stem ?, if you didn't cut the stem off, do it now, and you should get more flowers, ave the seed from these, store them in a dry, cool place, in a paper bag or envelope, and sow them next year, about middle of march, Derek.

the pods will have brown seeds in them about the size of sweet pea seeds when they are ripe. unripe seed isn't fully formed and are unlikely to grow into new plants. the seeds you get will rarely grow in the same colour way as the plant you get them from unless it is a stable variety or a true species.
welcome to GoY from me too.

As said, best to wait until they are fully ripe, but now it's done there is no harm in giving it a go! Always fun to try things and who knows you may get something interesting.

The pods should be left to fully ripen on the plant. When the pods naturally burst open, the seeds are ready and viable. You may still get a few mishapen or sterile plants. You can put a little baggie over the pod to catch the seeds if it opens before you can get to it.
