My neighbour has a 30 ft tall tree, just 10 ft fron his house. Could anyone tell me what it is - and whether the closeness of it's roots could be a problem.leaf sanple below. Thanks

Possibly an alder? Does it have catkins in spring and little bunches of cone like seed cases? They love wet ground.
Seems a strange choice for a garden though.
Whatever it is 10 feet is much too near. Problem is worse with any large tree on heavy clay ground because shrinkage in dry weather can cause cracking of foundations.
