My bean pods develop but there are no bean seeds inside? What is going on?

Kentucky Blue Pole beans. Pods seemed totally empty. New for me to see this. Thanks for response.

Hmm..'Kentucky Blue' isn't a particularly old variety. Still, if the pods are less than 1/4 inch thick, the seeds will be just barely perceptible. If they are larger than that, I suppose that the pods could develop with just one or two seeds fertilized, but the pods should be distorted, if that is true.

What kind of beans, Syost? Standard string beans often show little seed growth in the early stages of pod development. In fact, some older varieties are already getting tough by the time seeds are conspicuous.
