Identification please. I know it's a hydrangea but which one? Growing in a garden centre and not one of them knew which one it was, " they won't pay for anyone who has special knowledge of plants" was their answer. No wonder they are going downhill.

Definitely Hydrangea paniculata - not sure of variety, might be vanilla fraise as Jimmy says.

Yes they were fading but the lady in the gc said it had flowered for months. Thank you both, super plant but too big for my little patch.

H.p. Vanille Fraise goes a lovely pink as it fades. There are dozens of named H. paniculata types and telling them apart is not easy.

Hi Cammomile,
Re garden centre comment- I used have that experience for most of my working life with big impersonal garden centres but when I moved down here some years ago found my local one has that touch where they know exactly what you are after and I f they don't have it on the day they take your number and get it in stock. They are a family run business and the old boy who is a walking garden thesaurus is in the office and keeps a watchful eye on the centre so the staff feel managed and supported. They also know the local climate etc so are really on top of their game. Most refreshing but not a big help to you regrettably.

Looking again, if those flowers are rounded, ball shaped then it is more likely to be H. grandiflora, possibly Annabelle. H.paniculata have pointed flower heads.

They did have pointy heads Owdboggy. There are about six garden centres within a ten mile radius of me and only one which is privately owned, has anyone with knowledge of plants and they are so much cheaper than the big ones, even giving away plants on a big rack on the way out, when they have lost their lustre. I tried to get some money off a clematis in Tesco as it was desperately dry and was told they couldn't.

Hi, can anyone identify this plant for me please? Many thanks. »
The flowers look as though they are starting to fade so it could be Hydrangea paniculata 'Vanilla Fraise'.
