Not a pretty sight! I have completely dug out all old wildflower remnants, and now grass has sprung up everywhere. Will I have to dig it over more than once?!

Well I wouldn't normally advise this, but if having to dig it over two or three times and bending down sorting through each spadeful to extract roots from all these shoots is physically difficult, think I'd resort to glyphosate while there's still strong growth... then dig it over when you're sure its all clear.

Thanks both - we've just 'Weedol'd' it. I was planning to sow annuals once I've added some good stuff.

If me I would leave till the spring then just dig over ,
When I had the allotment I used to plant Rye seed about now and do the same thing ...

Thanks Gnarly . . . I'd read that an autumn sowing would give the plants a head start, but maybe I'll think again.

All depends on the weather and the slugs.
Best to plant at the optimum time also if you dig over and plant now I bet more weed seeds and grass will grow and least in the spring the plants can soon compete.

You're probably right, Gnarly. But if more weed seeds and grass are likely to grow anyway, maybe I shouldn't be digging it over until March?! Perhaps I should try and cover the patch with plastic . . .
