I wonder if someone can tell me what this is ? I have been all afternoon trying to transfer a picture Ha Ha It seems to have been a seed dropped by a bird @ It has grown in 1 year to about 10 feet. Looks quite nice but am wondering whether to remove it now (while I can) -it could be one of these poisonous things ? Here goes with the photo xx Lol

Given its position, I assume that is the house wall, I'd be getting it out pronto before it does any damage.

Not sure what it is, but I agree with Moon Grower, its too close to the house wall whatever it is and needs to be removed.

Thank you both for your help xx but this is just a cutting in a small vase ,shown against the wall so that it could be seen more clearly - the main 10ft tree is near my abundant clematis in the garden and when you take a photograph its difficult to see the leaves against the background of clematis. Thank you for your concern though xx and I'll just have to wait till someone can tell me what it is. I have looked up my tree books but cannot get a picture of it - I was wondering if it was some sort of Ivy ? but its free standing and not trying to cling.

If you can get a shot of the actual plant and post that, that might be more useful - sometimes its clearer on a sunless day, sometimes better on a sunny day.

Also a close-up of a typical leaf, flattened out a bit - those are all curled up. Looks a bit poplar-ish?

OK, I think that's Italian alder, Alnus cordata. It will eventually grow to 28 metres tall.

I thought lime as the leaves are similar.

May well still need removing given the size it can grow to!
