Pittosporum- in our new house there are three large, old shrubs. I'd love to salvage and rejuvenate. Any suggestions? Recent rains have spurred some new growth but still old and woody. Cut back hard and wait for spring? Or just replace? Thanks! (Zone 10a, socal)

Usually rejuvenation is done in thirds so as not to kill the the shrub. so take 1/3 of the old stems out [evenly to maintain shape] this year then I/3 next yr etc. with the material removed you may be able to take cuttings too just in case they don't survive the pruning.
