what can i plant in my north facing garden to brighten it up?

Answers

Almost anything - north facing gardens are sunny and bright all summer, after all. You might not choose something like lavender near the house, particularly if the soil is heavy, but most things, apart from tender plants if your garden is exposed, cope very well. That said, a clue about what kind of thing you'd like would be good - I don't fancy reproducing half the Plant Encyclopaedia here... so the size you'd like at least, and whether your soil is waterlogged in winter or you're on light soil, would be helpful.

Your choices may be more limited, however, if there is an overhang, shade trees, or a house more than two stories! Look for shade loving and woodland plants then--still a lot of options available!
