Me Again. There are little green caterpillars eating my Rose Leaves, what do?

Answers

Well, I wouldn't do anything they'll pupate soon enough but you could always spray them with soapy water...

You might want to look up Rose sawfly larvae and rose slug larvae in case its those - for those you may need to use a pesticide.

I have to spray my roses on a regular basis with Roseclear as they would be devastated by blackspot, mildew and aphids, so I guess that you need a spraying programme for your roses.

Just for some green caterpillars Jimmy? Sounds a bit overkill to me.

MG, you are fortunate that where you live up in Scotland, you don't seem to suffer the same problems with roses as down south. My roses would be absolutely rubbish if I didn't spray regularly . Some time ago, I visited Duthie Park and noted that their roses were spotless. No mildew, blackspot or aphid to be seen.

I agree you need to spray with the problems you have but surely not just for caterpillars... Aberdeen very sensibly dug up all the roses they used to have in the beds between the two sides of the duel carriageways. They looked scruffy at the best of times and required a lot of work.
