Two years ago I put in some loral hedging on the boundry either side of a large tree the has a preservation order on it, I'm now finding that the hedging nearest to the tree is not making a lot of growth, I think it is getting starved of water etc because of the large tree, any suggestion on how to get the hedging to grow better.

Lots o compost and organ matter dug into the soil? Not going to be easy as the tree with the preservation order on it will be sucking up all the water etc. from the ground!
