I note that the leaves are opposite, which should help narrow it down. A close up of where the leaves join the stem, especially near a growing tip, may help narrow down the possibilities of family affiliation.

I don't think I planted it - it's been there as long as I can remember. We've got a very large garden and I honestly can't remember if it flowers. Not sure how to add a photo to an existing question so will have to post it as a new question. Thanks
