My water lily hasn't flowered this year, but had several last year. It has however produced many pads. Do you think it could flower next year.
Last year my flowering crab (malus) didn't produce any flowers and therefore no fruits, (even though it did flower the previous year. However this year it did flower and has produced so many fruits that the branches are bending under the weight, so I really don't know what's going on in my garden

they don't flower well if they are too close to a waterfall/fountain. they need to be in the stillest part of the pond. they will flower again so don't chuck them out. if they are very large perhaps think about splitting the plant in the spring.

Perhaps your crab apple is a biennial bearer as many ordinary apple trees are. You get one good year followed by a low fruit year, tho' you were unlucky & didn't get any this year. Look for a bumper year in 2018. I don't know anything about water lilies, sorry.
