Hydrangea not flowering

My hydrangea has never flowered before. It used to be in a shady clay area. But in July I moved it to the container witch has more sun.

Just wondering how you are pruning it. Done at the wrong time you cut off all the potential flower buds for the following year. Its only small so this year don't prune it at all and see what happens. If it does flower leave the dead flowers on over the winter and cut them off just before the leaf buds burst in spring, but only take a little off.

Thank you Stera. I didnt know that. Just know it was blue when I bought it on the market, used the correct feed for
blue hydrangeas, but it still came back pink. Seems it needs a constant supply of iron.

Haven't pruned it

I haven't pruned it.

Someone pruned it, Gardener55: that is all current season's growth, and rather stunted looking, to boot. Are you feeding it anything? And just how much sun is it getting? It actually looks a bit sunburned.

No feeding. I just transplanted it. If you look closely it does have old wood on it.

I'm not seeing anything that might have been left over from last year. How long have you had it?

Since august last year

The leaves are covering up the old growth because there is so little of it. It's only young.

Ah! That accounts for it! It must have been too young to bloom this spring. Hopefully, it will develop flower buds this fall, which will bloom next spring. If that is good, nutrient rich compost that it is planted in, then you probably won't need to feed it. If it is the usual impoverished commercial mix, you might want to think about feeding it soon.

Not sure why it hasn't flowered, but you could have a look here

If you haven't pruned it too hard, perhaps it is the soil, I thought someone would have answered who has the know-how on these, but time yet.
