Can anyone name this plant for me please it was given to me on an Open Garden day visit I was told the name but had forgotten it by the time I reached home ..
It grows very tall 8-10 ft it has whirles of mauve flowers growing up round its stem when in bloom ..

at 8-10ft I'd also go for Echium probably pininana. once its flowered it will die but you will get lots of seeds from it.

Thank you so much ,that's it Echium Pininana , I'll have to try to keep it through the winter and then as Sbg says collect seed if it blooms ..

Looks like an Echium to me, I once grew two types, one got tall & one was like a bush, I liked both of them, I must grow them again next year :o))

I hope you are successful in keeping it through the winter
Amy. I've tried with them so many times that now I've given up. They thrive by the sea though as they don't get frosted( or snow dumped on them). The insects love them.

Thanks for answering my query Ff , I'll protect it as much as I can it's already grown twice the size since I had it , we are near the sea my daughter tells us they don't have the frosts here , we're not sure that we really believe her after having our pipes frozen up last year .. Mmmm ..
