But, ivy is invaluable to insects and birds for nectar and the berries, so don't dismiss it without regard for the other inhabitants of the garden. Phil J

And I should have said that over 50% of what we commonly grow in our gardens is toxic if ingested...

Hederas do flower when they're mature, but only if you don't keep it regularly trimmed back - the whole plant is toxic anyway. The flowers look quite like Fatsia japonica flowers, and the berries on them turn black as they ripen.
