This is the complete size of my Clematis Cartmanii Avalanche - am I right that as 'it has flowered before June' I 'shouldn't prune'. As you can see, it is in a pot, and it's Evergreen so I don't want to prune it, but some online flower companies say to do it in summer - is that only if it's too big?

According to the RHS, this is a Prune group 1, so it is not necessary to prune at all, but if you need to, do it immediately after its flowered. Link below
