This year most of my garden plants are romping away, taller than ever and with only a few exceptions But - the clems have gone mad, shooting profusely and refusing to climb the trellis. Instead they prefer to ramble freely. Trying to keep them in check is difficult as the numerous stems are very brittle. Is anyone else having this same problem? If so how have you managed to solve it without losing half the new, healthy shoots?

Yes, Sunbeam, I also tried putting ties round with the same result as you. Seems there's no answer, is there?

I’m sorry I don’t have the answer but really glad you’ve asked the question. Mine are like that too, spreading horizontal and looking a bit weak especially where the plant is in more shade. I did try putting ties round but the stems broke
