Agapanthus. Watching gardeners world last night I was surprised to see that Monthy put his agapanthus that were in pots in a sheltered and frost free position? I’m going to struggle to move my enormous pot so could I wrap it in bubble wrap or horticultural fleece when the frosts come?

There are some that are fully hardy and mine stay out in their pots all winter. I wouldn't be able to move a couple of them by myself.

if you know that yours is a more tender variety then fleece will be a good solution.

Agree with SBG and I try and let the pot dry out as they die down with the hope to keep the pot covered so it doesn't get waterlogged and then freeze.

Hi, it depends whether you have a herbaceous species, or an evergreen 1, the herbaceous types are generally hardier than the evergreens, I have a herbaceous 1 , which is planted in the ground, {they don't need their roots to be restricted} and it survived the 2 very cold winters of 2010/11 no problem, Derek.

I think I might have the hardy variety too as these were dug up from a border where they’d been forgotten and consequently flowered beautifully this year!

I have a big pot of Agapanthus that I couldn't possibly move. The small pot which is a smaller type of Agapanthus didn't flower this year. The large pot did flower and it was out all winter. I live in Scotland,

Mine have survived for several years and are always left outside in their pots.
