What is the best size of bark chips for Phals? I use only bark chips, not a mixture

I buy orchid mix compost and the chips are about 1-3cm in length. Like tug they get re-potted when they are top heavy with roots.

In my experience, about 1/2 in. to 3/4 in. in diameter. Young seedlings and miniature varieties prefer a finer grade. My rule of thumb is not to transplant until there are more roots outside the pot than in.
