SURFINIA , PERTUNIAS or NOT
Have been sold these plants as trailing Surfinias, on line, but after a month of growth they look just like Petunias. I have grown Surfinias for years and they always look like purple ones shown. The pic showing red Petunias were sold as Surfinias , can anybody identify one from the other.

I've had lots of Surfinia petunias and they were the same size flower as normal Petunias Sheila but they trail and come in lots of colours. My favourite is Blue Vein, lovely scent to it. I think Surfinia is a TM. Calibrachoa have smaller flowers but also trail, sometimes called Million Bells. Not sure if that's a TM too.

Not so Sheilabub - surfinia petunias have much the same size flower as ordinary petunias. Calibrachoa, sometimes sold as mini petunias, are much, much smaller plants and flowers and not even actual petunias, they;re short lived perennials in warmer climates.
As for what you've bought Thornyside, red surfinias do not exist - I suspect you've got ordinary petunias in the top pic.

Interesting Bamboo - thank you for putting me right - I'm easily confused! Love Calibrachoa - they seem to go on flowering all summer.
So does Ian have Petunias above then?

Surfinias come in all different colors, now, including red.

Oh yea , so there are red ones available - but they don't seem to hang down as far as the other colours, estimated at 8.-12 inches, whereas the purples and pinks I grow get between 18-24 inches or more... I've not so far seen any red ones on sale though, other than on line.

Sheila: yea, they're definitely petunias - the question is whether they're surfinia/trailing or ordinary upright ones.

Thank you all, some interesting views. I think the well known garden centre that supplied me would know what their selling,I think they just took advantage of the fact garden centres were closed. Last time for me anyway. Calabroca is the million bells ,yes, I have all colours here, beautiful plant.
Thanks again ,all of you.

Sorry Bambo, not my pic, not my post. I personally wouldn't buy red trailing Petunias but that's a personal choice.

Apologies Thornyside and Ian plant, my comment should have been directed to Ian...

They look the same size in the photos, but Surfinias should be smaller than Petunias, as you’ll know. New name Calabrachoa - just to further confuse things.
