Hydrangea petiolaris - I'm wondering if it would be possible to grow one in a very large pot? Has anyone tried that? Thanks.

Thank you both. I do have one planted in the ground and happily covering one trellis. The other trellis where I would like one is at the back of a stony bed where it would be very hard to dig a hole! It is so lovely that I think I will try one in a huge pot as it is too shady for most climbers.

Thanks Klahanie.

I think it would be very taxing on you Sheila considering how thirsty hydrangeas are and they can grow to 8 feet in diameter. They drink so much water.

Thanks Paul. I will investigate other “climbers in pots” before I commit.

it would be much better in the ground as it is a self clinging climber. We had one for 20 yrs and was slow to get going but once it had it was beautiful. Quite thirsty plant though.
