Funnily enough one has appeared in my garden and I noticed today too. No idea where the seed came from.
Caper spurge is not edible. The sap is milky and can cause a nasty chemical burn if you get it on your skin and then get the sun on it.

it is supposed to deter moles and gophers, it doesn't!

Just looked it up and seen that it has other aliases as well. More names than it knows what to do with!

I see this plant popping up all around the neighbourhood, but so far not in my garden. I think all the Euphorbias are attractive plants.

There are two kinds of Euphorbia called gopher spurge. This one is the biennial E. lathyris. E. rigida is a different plant altogether.

Well I suppose one of us had to get it right eventually Tug!
I did check on line before trying to answer the question so the illustration I found when I checked must have been mislabelled. I remember an uncle getting one in his allotment in the late 1940s and asking my mother what it was. We thought that it looked very foreign!

Mossy you have nothing to apologise for...
