Funnily enough one has appeared in my garden and I noticed today too. No idea where the seed came from.
Caper spurge is not edible. The sap is milky and can cause a nasty chemical burn if you get it on your skin and then get the sun on it.
it is supposed to deter moles and gophers, it doesn't!

I see this plant popping up all around the neighbourhood,but so far not in my garden. I think all the Euphorbias are attractive plants.

There are two kinds of Euphorbia called gopher spurge. This one is the biennial E. lathyris. E. rigida is a different plant altogether.

Well I suppose one of us had to get it right eventually Tug!
I did check on line before trying to answer the question so the illustration I found when I checked must have been mislabelled. I remember an uncle getting one in his allotment in the late 1940s and asking my mother what it was. We thought that it looked very foreign!
