Anyone recognise this wild flower. No leaves on the stem so probably well buried in the undergrowth.

It is indeed. Did not recognise it as the ones we used to see in Somerset were much redder than this one.

Likes damp places in particular, used to have it in the pond margins for years.

In Sussex we call them milkmaids. They like damp verges and woodland edges. Lovely little spring flower.
