North East England, United Kingdom
Hi - could anyone recommend a shrub for me please?
North East England.
To go against a (roughly) north east facing fence.
Gets several hours of sunshine in the morning but the rest of the time is in shade.
Clay soil.
Would prefer evergreen if possible, but not essential.
Looking forward to your suggestions! Thank you 😊

Skimmia japonica subsp. reevesiana is the one you are thinking of I believe, Eileen.

I find Skimmia japonica do well in shady spots, evergreen and flowers nowish, very fragrant and you have male plants [no berries] or female plants [berries] There is one that is both male and female but cant remember its varietal name.
Aucuba and Sarcoccoca will also do well. both evergreen
