My Rhododendron which flowers in May has started to make new buds but alway around September/October it get a lot of yellow leaves which then drop off?

It is planted in a large pot where it is looked after very well water/food.

The plant is now around 6 years old and it never dissapoint with masses of flowers every year.

Could you tell me why it has the yellowing leaves, is this normal at this time of year?

Regards
Miss J Taylor

If those are the oldest leaves, Miss Taylor, that is probably normal, as long as the bush isn't getting sparse. If it is, it may be too late to do something this year, but you might want to double check whether you are applying the fertilizer according to directions, or whether the plant needs repotting--six years in one pot is a lot.
