When do i cut my Phlox back,or do i just leave it
to die down?

Yes I agree, in the spring you will see new growth appearing amongst the dead stalks, that is a good time to remove the old growth, if you have cut back you just pull the dried stalks out in the summer or late spring.

I do cut mine back at this time of year, and then spread home-made compost around to feed the soil. The worms take it down for me. I also shift some clumps around, or split them, so it's easier when they're cut back.

I tend to leave them alone and then trim back in the spring. however if you like the tidy look then cut down late nov so there is a couple of inches of stalk left to mark their place.
