Perennial wallflowers did well but now the stems are very woody. Should I cut them back? I’d like to keep them for next year if possible. Thanks.

Everyone says they are easy from cuttings, so how come they never root at all for me, no matter what method I use?

well...........
If it is any consolation it was about 5 yrs before I had any success. I finally had luck when I used stems that were just turning brownish and tore the pieces off so they had a 'heel' like you'd do for carnations. If cut with a knife or secateurs they didn't work.

Thank you so much Eileen and Owd. I look forward to doing what I can, and luckily have plenty to experiment with as some are bound to go wrong!

take cuttings, they are really easy to root, either directly into compost or in water until roots show. They will respond to light pruning too.
