Daylilies come with a bulbous growth on the roots that store water. I don't provide water for mine and they are still going well in spite of a dry July and August.

Rock roses will grow in such places.

echinacea, echinops, Verbenna bonariensis does well for a friend with a very dry sunny border. Helianthemum some of the geraniums are also a possibility.
