Spritzhenry has written an extremely good blog on Awkward Orchids. Type her name in the search box and go to her blogs it was about a year ago.

You'll find it if you type 'Awkward Orchids' into the search box.
Thank you for the compliment, Mrs MB. :-))

Watching Gardener's World, they mentioned this problem and suggested moving the Orchid to place a few degrees cooler.....this should shock it into sending out new flowering spikes.

I just read the blog, Spritz! Sadly, I don't have orchids anymore--lack of light in the "new" house--but I'll have to remember the temperature change trick. I guess it makes them think it's spring.

I would check the light levels first. Healthy Phalaenopsis leaves should be kelly green to green olive color--if they are dark green they are not getting enough light to form flower spikes. If they are getting very bright indirect light (an open north exposure) or filtered morning sun, check the fertilizing formula and schedule. They prefer weak feeding every third watering with a 2-1-2, or 3-1-2, proportioned soluble plant food. I would also check for pests, such as mealybugs.
