Hope others had some benefit from last night's gales? We woke to the happy sight of the lawn looking swept clean, with all the hundreds of leaves tucked up under the brambles at the end. Neither of us had been strong enough to rake during the last week - fate!

Every cloud . . .
My front path looks like the street sweeper has been around. Garden looks a disaster. Will sort it out when the winds die down. I've got all the windows in the house open - I love the fresh air smell all round the house, especially going to bed and the bedding smells as if it's been line dried. Aah the simple pleasures of life. :))

Lots of kindling up and down the lane to collect and hundreds of pine cones too.
Ripped the polytunnel covering..again.

We've had persistent rain to go with the wind so no chance of drying laundry. What a miserable day!

Unlucky, Owdb. Polytunnels are an absolute pain. So useful, but the wind wins in the end! Will you fix it his winter, or wait 'til spring now? Laundry gets a wash and dry all at once! Phil

Laundry? ? To get the smell of line dried bedding just open the windows on a really blustery day and hey-ho ! Who needs bottled smells ? :))

I was thinking of buying a poly greenhouse thingy - do you guys think they're worth the hassle ? I've no shelter for anything - plants are either indoors or exposed to the elements. :))

I think they are worth it Silverbell,as long as you remember to either tie them to a fence,or supports, and put heavy planters or stones on the bottom shelf,or overwintering plants in pots, otherwise they will be 'gone with the wind'.Lol.I have had mine a few years now,as no room for a conventional Greenhouse. All my plants have overwintered ok
over the years..The covers are quite sturdy too.

I will try and repair the tunnel tomorrow, as the wind has died down. If we replace the cover then that wil be in Spring, but you are talking serious money for a 30 feet by 15 feet piece of UVC resistant heavy gauge pvc.

Thanks Bloomer. I've got three 3' long kerbstones (unfinished job, the guy didn't come back) so they would be ideal.

I'm not as fortunate as everyone else. The 'lawn' (paddock grass) is covered in black leaves. all ash. and looks a mess. The drive is covered in twigs and leaves. The landy, which has a small leak on the roof, had a pond inside the roof lining, so I got wet when I popped out . Opposites rubbish bags were up against our gate, burst open. The polytunnel door broke, (hubbs has mended it now) and the main chicken shed, blew off it's raised feet, so it was all skewwy. Poor birds must have wondered what was going on. And with the amount of rain we've had, we suddenly had a few rats turn up, they've come down from the farm above us. and they've chewed thru a wooden frame, that holds the wire that keeps them out of the duck run and they forced their way thru. Luckily they couldn't get into the house and the ducks had left no feed in their run. Still their days are numbered.
