Alternatively, you can just place the pot under cover (in a cold greenhouse or cold frame) and remove all the dead top growth. As soon as the new shoots start to emerge in spring, the pots can go outside again

They are perfectly hardy, so just leave them where they are - just clean them up a bit by removing the dead leaves and flower stems.
