Re ZOOSK banner at top of opening page , is GOY now a dating service ? - I thought it was a service for gardening entusiasts

Answers

Hi Vynjan the banners are advertising space that the boys sell to finance the site... nothing to worry about :-) As one of the editors I don't actually see that banner but it will change over time, they all do.

Thanks for that information, Moon grower,

I just learnt recently that sites such as, GOY are expensive to run.

The banner at the top is often directly related to whatever sites your computer has visited recently - my banner shows a garden supply company, followed by Cotswold, followed by clothing - I ordered a tool from the garden company a month ago, ordered a present for my son from Cotswold, again a month ago, and have recently been looking at clothing online. So that's what my banner's showing... with other random ones thrown in. Not sure I've ever noticed one for a dating agency though - currently showing Made.com, furniture site.

Mine is showing Gardening Lover Dating .............

Ooh, I say, what have you been looking at when you're not on here, Shirleytulip, lol! Mine's showing blueberries currently, and that's completely unrelated to anything I've looked at in the past.

LOL, Bamboo, now have the Blueberries at the very top and the dating site to the right ... I believe Spritz has had the same ... I'm not being naughty .. honest!

Oh how disappointing, these days the only excitement I get is vicarious...

21 Dec, 2010

That's such a shame ... lol!!

Yea, well, all things must pass...

I went online to look for Julie's Christmas present, she now has an idea whats she is getting , after following me on the laptop despite me removing the history. LOL.
Got dating at the moment, think I better have a word with her.

Hee hee, Littlelegs... its a bit freaky I think, I mean you take a quick look at shoes and boots and then suddenly you've got ads on here for shoes and boots...

21 Dec, 2010

Bamboo , I am not in the habit of viewing "naughty " sites and I resent the implication !

21 Dec, 2010

I'm not for a moment suggesting you are in the habit of doing that, Vynjan - I'm merely passing on things I've observed;-))

21 Dec, 2010

I've never looked at ANY naughty sites and I've had dating agency ads for ages.... , and blasted Esther trying to get me to sue someone. I get shed ads popping up on YouTube too.

21 Dec, 2010

What's wrong with shed ads. They're sexy, too. And I'm in the market for a 20 footer at the moment! Worthy

21 Dec, 2010

i get the 'shed the fat' ones :o(((

as well as insurance, sheds and RSPB ads.

mine now has 'for dummies' series of books.
are they trying to tell me something do you think? :o)

21 Dec, 2010

Hee hee, Seaburngirl, I doubt it - I had the dating one earlier, seems to be gardeners dating, although I didn't click on it.

21 Dec, 2010

I also have a video that loads, about clean potable water.

21 Dec, 2010

You might be able to stop this by stopping pop ups in internet explorers security also set to delete cookies everytime you close down your current browsing session at least when you go back on the net you will start with a clean sheet

21 Dec, 2010

I've got Mozilla Firefox, not internet explorer, so am largely untroubled by ads - just the banner at the top really. Which I usually manage to not notice at all - I tell you, advertising is completely wasted on me...

21 Dec, 2010

Ach I think we just need to ignore the ads!

21 Dec, 2010

You should see the Spanish dating agency ads I get on this site! They render me speechless!

22 Dec, 2010

I suppose we are lucky just having to put up with a few adds usually connected with things that we have been looking at (e.g. fencing) some forums are charging members for add free usage.

22 Dec, 2010

Good grief Steve... thank goodness for this free site then!

22 Dec, 2010

It is true - a lot of sites (even my free Tetris one) will charge if you wish to be ad free, but that's fair enough, I guess - I just go off and make a cup of tea every time the ads take over till I can play again!

How do I say thanks?
