I grew some in the house back in the 80s, and i thought that the rough skinned Avocado made the nicer plant. You will have to bring it in to a frost free place for the winter, but don't expect to get any fruit in the uk. Just look at how little sun we've had this summer.

hi there Boopcoltz i am new to gardening to all I did was had a small glass filled with water then put 2 cocktail sticks across the glass balenced the stone so it was always just in the water it took quite a while to shoot but now it is nearly 4 years old. good luck!

I planted an avocado stone about 6 years ago, always hoping... It was an ungainly and pretty ugly looking spindly thing... never managed to get any fruit and eventually after bringing it indoors each winter I got fed up last year and left it out... gone to plant heaven... and good riddance! :o)
