I have used a vegetable from Hungary which is apparently very similar to parsley root, yet grows like parsnips. I beleive it is called zuldsege. can anyone help me to find a source of this vegetable seed?

Hi Norbreck welcome to GoY, I've translated this and its coming up as meaning just vegetable, not a type of vegetable.

I Googled "Hungarian Parsley" and found this -

http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~ituba/recipes/hungarianrecipes.html#general

This website states -

"In all of the recipes below, parsnip is a reasonable substitute for parsley roots. Use parsley roots if available."

And I think the word in Hungarian is "Zöldség". I found lots of pictures of markets, and Littlelegs is right - it translated as "vegetables".

I found a supplier of "Hungarian Root Parsley" but they ship in commercial quantities.
http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/108955345
/Root_parsley_First_Class.html

"Root parsley first class from Hungary
The main difference between the traditional Hungarian root parsley and this type of parsnip is the shape. The Berlin rootparsley is shorter, however it has bigger diameter."

It looks like you could substitute parsnip in recipes.
