Pruning acers

Has anyone else had this problem. This yellow green acer was getting too large so I pruned it last year. The branch promptly died. This summer things have got worse and coral spot has appeared. Is it something I've done or do they just not like being pruned?

It looks as though your Acer should be removed pretty quickly ,it is obviously very sick.

when you ptune you should cut right back to the stem on most if not all woody stems.the branch has no reasen to sustain itself with know leaves so it pours its resourses elswear .the dead stump left is open to desease and cant heal.as for the coral spot i havnt got a clue sorry
