Pruning Raspberries
By Lappinsm

We have about 20 rasberry plats which we inherited from the previous occupants of our house. They are at least 5 years old and, although they produce a reasonable crop each year and we usually prune out only the old canes, they have become veryy leggy. Some of the new canes from last year are over 6 ft tall. They are a Summer fruiting variety and my question is - Can we cut most of them to the ground without losing a years crop?

No, but you can cut them down to a reasonable height. Do it as soon as possible then they will (might) branch from down the stem.
