Is there any use Green Alkanet (Borage family) can be put to? For instance would it ferment into liquid plant food. There is a surfeit in our garden.

On plant Pentaglottis sempervirens

This can be a bit of a weed!! But the blue flowers are so pretty and I believe are used in cookery, sometimes frozen in ice cubes for decoration in drinks. I do have the odd bit here and there where it doesn't impinge on other plants. Seems to like shady places and a bit damp. Easily pulled up but wear gloves as the hairy leaves can irritate our skin. Enjoy :)

it will make a similar liquor to comfry as they are in the same family. It composts beautifully too.

Pam, I thought it was the blue flowers of borage that are used as decoration in drinks, especially in Pimms.

Alkanet is a marvellous bee plant. I keep it for that reason, pulling it up before it sets seed to keep it under control. This year, it is flowering with orange wallflowers in my front garden and is a happy pairing, although entirely unplanned!
