Hairy Caterpillar
Hi All, I found this hairy caterpillar snuggled up in my garden this morning, I have never seen one of these before can any one help identify?
I don't think I could kill it...if I lift it up and put it on the bird table will the birds help me do it? It's not that I am scared or anything this just the thought of the squish is giving me shivers!!
Thanks for any suggestions.

also hairy caterpillers that show up like this onedoes have irritating hairs on there body so i wouldnt pick it up and as theres only one i would take moon growers advice and its quite beautiful not to mention that the birds will probably find it unpalitable for the same reasens .

I've just looked it up on a website and its like a fox moth caterpillar. I don't like killing creatures unless I know for sure they are real pests, as we need all the moths and butterflies.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses...I have left it alone and will leave it to it's own devices. I have since found out from my nephew that they are sore when stood on...don't know where and when he did this but he shouldn't have been outdoors without something on his feet. Maybe that will teach him a leason! :-)

Probably rather sorer than the nephew. We walk outside barefoot in summer

i did say about the irritating hairs . if something is goardy and obvious in nature its either poisones or stings or is inviting something towards it like flowers or coppying something that is poisones excuse my spelling .

Thanks for all your comments, thoughts and advice. Everything taken on board and the little blitter was left to get on his way! (The Caterpillar not the Nephew :-))

In genreal I lets the critters in the garden be... We cause far more havoc than they do and try to mould everything to our ideas and designs.

I don't think this one will harm your plants... I'd just let it be we need moths.
