Has anyone on here had any success growing summer jasmine? My brother and his wife have just bought some but I've heard that it's not hardy in most of the UK. I've advised him to plant it in a sunny sheltered spot and mulch in the autumn. We're in the Scottish Borders, so replies from in or around this region would be most welcome. Many thanks.

Thanks Bamboo. That's what I'm assuming they bought, but I haven't seen it myself. I didn't bother to ask as they're usually a bit vague on botanical Latin! I haven't had any experience with summer jasmine, only J. nudiflorum, and I've read some conflicting things about J. officinale - some saying totally hardy, others saying not hardy at all! We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

There are a few varieties of summer flowering jasmine and not all are hardy, so the name of the one they've got is quite important.

True. A positive identification will have to wait until I get a chance to go and see it.

Yep, it's J. officinale. Thanks for your help Bamboo.

Depends what you mean by summer jasmine - the hardiest one in UK is Jasmine officinale, so if that's what he's got, then it should be fine.
