I agree NP. With the current cost of fuel it would be a great idea. Are you developing one Roger?

The only problem would be the amount of sun - would there be enough to power it at the right time i.e. when a frost was expected? In theory, a great eco-friendly solution, in practice, you'd have to have a back-up.

~ doesn't need much sunlight apparently~ my next door neighbour gets his hot water from 2 photovoltaic panels- I rely on a small fan heater in the greenhouse and would love something more eco friendly!~ am i right in thinking that they used to use hot manure to grow pineapples at Heligan?

if you saw the repeat of 'The Victorian Kitchen Garden' on UK Gardening last week Arlene you will have seen the one where they were growing all the spring veg in the middle of winter using the heat generated by rotting manure, and it only raised the bed temperature by about 2 deg.C. But it was enough.
