Palm shoots half way up tree (not sure what type palm)
My sister has a big cordyline/torbay (similar!), and its over 10ft!. It has shoots growing out of/around the middle at about 4ft from the base.
Can I do anything with them to grow them on (I lost my canary palm and 2 large cordylines this year), so I have my eye on these if I can replant them.
If they can be grown on.. what do I need to do to separate and grow them please?

Nooooooooooo, thats not the answer I wanted! :-((
Ok, thanks Bamboo saves me wasting time and tlc then...it looks ok at the top but it is massive so I cant get a good look.
I;ve left one of my cordylines in situ and cut down, but nothing growing out of the ground for me yet. Will wait a few weeks longer.

If the new shoots aren't at the base of the tree, you can't grow them on - shoots coming up from the base can sometimes be separated and grown on, but only if they have a good bit of root attached. Its possible the top of your tree has been damaged by the winter (is it growing at the top?) and this is the tree's response. If its not growing at the top, or looks sick, you may be best off cutting the trunk down to where the new growth is and letting that grow on in situ.
